The Hiring Process

NORCOM wants you to know what to expect during the hiring process. The following will help you navigate this process and have some idea about the approximate length of time this should take. NORCOM uses GovJobsToday to streamline the on-line application process and this also allows the applicant to track their progress as they move through the process. Most communication is made via E–mail and secondarily by phone so please be sure that we have accurate contact information.

For the Telecommunicator position, applications are screened continuously as long as recruitment remains open on GovJobsToday. The hiring process for this position includes the following:

  • Register with Public Safety Testing (PST) at Public Safety Testing.  A written test will be administered by PST and requires a fee of $33.00.
  • Initial interview
  • Conditional offer of employment
  • Polygraph
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Extensive background investigation; criminal history reports
  • Final interview
  • Post offer physical examination to include an audiogram (hearing test) and drug screen.

Each applicant must successfully complete each phase of testing/evaluation in order to be considered and moved forward in the application process.


  • Applicants will be allowed to reschedule for testing or interviews once during the recruitment process. Failure to appear without notice for any NORCOM initiated test or interview will result in your removal from the hiring process.
  • Applicants may retake the multiple task/split ear exam up to three times. The waiting period between retakes is 90 days. An applicant is eligible to go through the hiring process up to and including the initial interview every two years.

For ALL Other positions, applications are screened the first business day after a position closes. The process will depend upon the position and may include any or all of the following: skills tests and evaluations; panel interviews; scenario role plays; group dynamic exercises; written questionnaires; work styles assessments. This hiring process typically takes approximately four to six weeks.

Candidates who are considered finalists for all positions will be required to complete a Personal History Statement and sign an Authorization to Release information form so that a criminal history and background investigation can be completed.
